Awesome Voice overs & trouble shooting technology

So we will have a new blog up tomorrow! Featuring Christine Schisano who just helped me today with voice over work!
Check that out on the video blog side!

For now... TECH PROBLEMS!
Oye! This last month has been one painful tech process. Between my computer loosing 2 edited episodes that need to be re-edited now, the voice over audio that was lost randomly and my computer falling, creating a hole in my hard drive, this has been one Hell week for tech stuff!
Keep in mind that Episode 6 & 11 are missing now. Episode 6- Gossip and secrets is one of the biggest episodes. with 2 musical numbers, puppet action sequences and tons of special effects, its a huge process to go back and re-edit.
Episode 11, the other file that was lost, won't be as big of a feat but still, tons of fight scenes and special effects make them both tough.
In all the hustle and bustle of our new brooklyn apartment, we have a lot going on all the time. Through all the chaos, we hadn't had anything too major break...until the other day.
My computer, with all the episodes edited and ready to go. Just 3 days before the computer fell, Sean had suggested that I take the rough drafts of the episodes and export them.  So, I did! Into an external hard drive... And if I hadn't I would have lost all my edited materials, as apposed to just 2. (Thanks babe!) Oye! That could have been a freaking disaster!
Everything comes is three's though, and today was no different.
We started to do voice overs in new york city with some amazing talent including: Christine Schisano, Leon Axt, Tobias Christian wong and whitney asante.
During the 1st session of voice overs, Leon's audio...1 1/2 of time, where he wen't through the whole season, and guess what? We go to do his interview and garage band tells me that it cant find his audio. I see the file, it shows audio clips, it shows audio spikes, and yet there is no sound. I export, then close it and Vwahla! Nope, it doesn't work. Everything goes blank. So there you have it! Now, we've got to do it all over again.... face in palm!
so the second session went bye much faster! 30 minutes but unfortunately we couldn't do his interview.
Leon was a great sport and I really appreciated his patience! (Thanks dude!) Needless to say, all the audio turned out great and I am thrilled to have people all over the world involved with this project! I've learned a great many things, and I hope as I write these blogs, if you are filmmaker you can learn from the failures and triumphs we've experienced.

So last night in Brooklyn, NY at Standard ToyKraft Puppet People premiered on the stage! A modified skit between Vera-Lynn and Princess Sophia was performed as well as "The Pregnant Pits" song. Cannot wait to put some of the clips together for ya'll to see. People really laughed and Rachel Greene and I, had audience members come up to us and say they really digged it! Hopefully we got some people to go to our website and promote Puppet People even more so!
FOR THOSE IN THE WEB SERIES:
I am done with editing Episode 10. And will be starting on Episode 11 tomorrow.

Co-Writer/Co-Director-
I had a great time this week on Tuesday February 10th, 2015 on Movie Talks at the Free Speech Studio in Brooklyn, NY.
Interviewers Carrie and Leslie were inviting and the other guests on the show were extremely talented filmmakers, producers, directors and actors.

During my interview we talked about my acting career, where I want to go with it while here in New York. Playing darker more sinister characters like: Evil Queen, Magical characters, Druggies, Psychos', the girl who's just a little off; and of course as I get more into shape:  The gun toting, bow and arrow carrying badass, to name a few.

We also talked about my filmmaking and Diabla Productions! It was great. Specifically, Puppet People our latest: Dark Comedy Musical and a bit about the new show set to start shooting in Late August, Early September.

I cannot wait until the show airs, I will let you know as soon as I hear info about it!
Until then, keep your nose clean and your feet warm in this wintery weather!

The Joy of Editing a web series! OyE!

Okay, I was being slightly sarcastic in my title here, so bear with me. As some or all of you know, while I was in Seattle, my boyfriend(Sean) and I, made a web series "Puppet People" with some amazingly talented people. It was a great experience and I am so thankful for it.
Now! That being said... The filming was a blast, getting all the stuff together and seeing it come to life while people are acting it out was incredible, however some things lead to us having to modify the show a bit.
What ended up happening was:
We needed to do an Episode 1, which we had but I wanted to create a whole new beginning, that way the story made more sense and due to that, all the episodes at the beginning were jumbled up, making some footage from the Alpha Episode 1 now Beta Episode 2 and so on. This lead to the episodes being mixed up. Episode 5 footage is now Episode 6 footage. Episode's 8-11 fortunately are the same since the decision to create a new Episode 1 was brought forth before the filming of 8-11 but still, you see where the frustration and dilemma is.
In addition, half of the audio files that were recorded didn't break up into the individual shots, so now I am in the process of sifting through to find the right audio takes.
lol... Its a great project and its coming along splendidly just taking a bit longer due to these complications.
Why am I telling you all of this?
Because I am learning from this experience and I hope to pass along this knowledge to those who are creating their own projects.

MY ADVICE ON THIS SUBJECT
1. Label everything correctly
2. Double check before editing that everything is labeled correctly
3. We had people helping out on set doing audio or lighting or holding a puppet because this was volunteer show. We were extremely lucky to have people so dedicated to working on this show. So, If you are in the same boat and  don't have a designated audio person who knows the in's and out's  of how to break down the audio clips, be as detailed as you can be, especially about stopping the recorder after the director says "cut"...lol...
4. Double check that the stand in audio tech knows to stop the recorder after the director says "Cut"
5. Mistakes will happen and that is what learning is all about. And by proxy, what art is all about, just roll with the punches and never give up!

So one of our cast mates, Kevin Breen, sent me an email a few weeks ago with the title "I'm not kidding, there is a show about a sock Puppet, off-broadway called "Hand to god"!
WHAT!?!?!?!?! That is awesome!
So of course I had to check it out! I am hoping to see the show if its still running but I've seen some of the clips from there show. It looks fantastic!
The basic premise is about a guy living in a very religious area and this sock puppet takes on a life of his own. Causing mayhem. And even possibly hinting at being the devil.
So excited about sock puppets and in general puppets coming back, I wanted to share this with our followers!
Check out the clip of the show by clicking: "HAND TO GOD" PLAYBILL HIGHLIGHTS

By the way, Sean and I just moved to New York and are starting to get settled! We are so excited to bring Puppet People to New york and cannot wait to get this great show out there for others to see. Who knows? If we can get enough people to watch the show, maybe we can do a theatrical version of it too! :-D

A Community  united cannot fall

Blogger-
Molly gazay- founder/co-owner of diabla productions- co-director/co-producer/co-writer/actress/singer/songwriter
In san francisco, I was fortunate to be apart of a community who took care of each other. The singer/songwriters at the hotel Utah and bazaar cafe were gracious and talented, in the acting scene, Open tab productions  was the one of the best companies I ever worked for, as well as ted kopulous , director, actor and writer., among many others. now, being here in seattle, diabla productions has met some amazing people, from our talented crew: Sean O'Connor, Dameaion Clotheridge, dean M, Jim Garber, Zach caldwell, and others, plus the amazing cast!

We at diabla productions value our community. We know that a community united cannot fall. those who care for one another, take care of one another and support one another in their own ways, will be a force to recon with. We believe in community and believe more in supporting that community. If we do not take care of each other then who will?

Now we add a new group of people to our puppet people group.
They have donated their space to our show and we cannot thank them enough!

As a community company we believe in the strength and magic of what a community can do for one another.
To use an old phrase "united we stand, ".

And with the help of those we have met in the north west, the amazing talents they possess whether on screen or off, whether near or far, we cannot state how much they have touch our lives and how many others they will touch with their kindness, and donation to the show in the hopes of entertaining and creating a new world for those watching to experience.

As a non-traditional type casting, female ran company we hope to further create a platform for both men and women to be able to showcase their talents outside of what the traditional "hollywood" standard is. We strive to give performers a chance to stretch out of their "type Casting" and spread their wings into new characters different than the norm.

To expand: Since we are artists, we do not always get the ability to show people what they are worth monetarily. so we hope to show them through the kindness they show us. We proudly promote those who have spent time talking to us, and providing us with locations to showcase the talented actors and crew people who have been dedicated to the show over the last year.

we feel, here at puppet people that those artists who give up there time are more valuable then gold. Time is the only thing you can never get back and we feel honored to have them as apart of our community.

So this blog is dedicated to not only the cast and crew but those in the community who we proudly call our artistic family!
Thank you all for your dedication, kinds, honor, talent and above all time. This show would not be what it is without you.

Space donation
